SUMMIT County Hiring VSO


HOURS OF OPERATION: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 P. M., Monday thru Friday
Salary determined by qualifications/experience

The Summit County Veterans Service Commission in Akron, Ohio is accepting applications for a full-
time Veteran Service Officer (CVSO)

Summary: As per Ohio Revised Code, Section 5901.07 the CVSO’s “Duties are to advise and assist
person’s in the armed forces of the United States, veterans, and the spouses, surviving spouse,
children, parents and dependents of the veterans in presenting claims or obtaining rights or
benefits under any law of the United States or of this State.”

Determines appropriate benefits for clients; obtains documents necessary to substantiate claims
(e.g. medical evidence, service history, employment verification and history, witness statements,
birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, divorce documentation, custody
documentation); makes recommendations on financial assistance applications based
upon applicable guidelines; submits completed claims and applications to appropriate agencies in a
timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

Honorable discharged veteran from active duty service.

Effective communication, writing and basic computer skills to include keyboard/typing skills.

Certified by Ohio Department of Veterans Service as a county veterans service officer (CVSO)

Accreditation from Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of General Council, Washington D.C.
