Administrative Assistant- INTERNSHIP MCVSO

Position: Administrative Staff Internship
Supervisors: Director/CVSO and the Veterans Service Commission
Program Description: Medina County Veterans Service Office (MCVSO) is a state mandated, county agency that provides financial relief/assistance to the Veterans of Medina County, Ohio. We are accredited through the Ohio Department of Veterans Services (ODVS) to aid with all matters dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Common matters include housing, health, income maintenance, long-term care, consumer issues, elder care, federal, state, county veteran’s benefits counseling. We host seminars as well as community events that seek out our clients that need assistance. Our office works closely with other county, state and federal agencies to accomplish this.
Principal duties may include:
• Answering phones and clerical work (filing, scanning, etc.)
• Provide assistance and advocacy for individual clients.
• Dealing with issues affecting seniors and/or low-income clients.
• Filling out and filing government papers.
• Determining client’s eligibility for County, State and Federal assistance and benefits.
• Outreach work.
• Marketing (direct and indirect).
• Basic accounting.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, consistent with qualifications.
Qualification criteria: Knowledge of:
• Knowledge of social services, interviewing techniques, community resources and counseling methods.
• Knowledge of basic accounting and filing.
• Basic MS Office programs and various computer techniques.
Abilities to:
• Ability to analyze, develop and implement a work plan.
• Work independently and accept supervision.
• Interview clients in a professional and courteous manner.
• Take notes and document activities in an organized manner.
• Act as a client advocate.

• Ability to communicate & work with a multi-faceted team of professionals.
• Ability to collaborate with social services agencies and other service providing staff to implement services and programs.
• Relate and communicate with the clients, community, and community organizations; network with other social service organizations and find resources.
• Have good listening skills and help clients feel at ease during the interview.
Requirements:
Applicants must be a high school graduate enrolled for college the following year.
• Must complete screening and interview process.
• Disciplines that this internship may support: Sociology and Social Science, Gerontology, Management Sciences.
• Applicants must have completed at least two years of their undergraduate degree in order to get academic credit for their discipline.
• Students enrolled in ROTC may find this internship beneficial to their future military endeavors.
Job/relationship: MCVSO will host one Internship student as an Assistant Administrative Case Manger who will work under the direction of the Director/Veterans Service Officer and the Office Manager.

This is a maximum 40 hour a week paid position.
